Even if the morrow is barren of promises, nothing shall forestall my return, to become the dew that quenches the land, to spare the sands, the seas, the skies...I offer thee this silent sacrifice...

Something unusual that happened today (Eng. Assignment)

Every Tuesday, our class, 2A, have our home economics class as the last period of school. In home economics, we basically do cooking and sewing. Today, we were instructed to cook a recipe which I myself have never heard of before, Peanut Butter Cookies! These are basically cookies that are made with brown sugar, which is healthier, and, of course, peanut butter.

The recipe instructed us, my partner Reuben Choo and I, to mix the butter, fine sugar and brown sugar together to create a thick mixture. After this was done, the egg was stirred in followed by the peanut butter...then came the flour!

When one normally does baking, the mixture is smooth and silky until the flour is added, the flour is supposed to just make it thicker. However, as he slowly poured the sieved flour into the cookie mixture and mixed with the cake mixer, the most unusual thing happened! As I mixed the mixture, its started to get thicker, but as more flour was mixed in, it started to turn grainy! The large pieces broke into small pieces the size of those erasers on the caps of pencils! These pieces steadily grew smaller until the mixing container looked like it had a large amount of yellowish-brown coloured eraser dust pieces! (Unfortunately, I do not have a picture of this as it was lesson time and my hand-phone could not be used)

We showed it to our Home Economics teacher, Miss Hashima, who doubled over with laughter at our product, causing me and Reuben to be extremely embarassed! Miss Hashima then helped to solve our problem, she got some milk and poured it in to the mixture, making it thick enough to form "proper" dough.

After we followed the instructions from Miss Hashima on how to stir in the milk and how to mix it in a way that would not make it turn into eraser dust pieces. We soon finished the cookie dough and placed them on the baking tray. We then put the tray in the oven and left it to bake. After 15 minutes, the cookies came out and they looked excellent to me. Miss HAshima then graded the cookies and we got a whopping four and a half out of five! Not a bad result at all!

A special moment that I enjoyed with my family (Eng. Assignment)

Its been awhile since we've gone out to eat ever since my Dad went overseas to work, well today, we went to Tampines Mall after church to eat our lunch. Since this was our first time eating out in several weeks, we all decided to eat at our favourite joint, Express Teppanyaki! There, the expert cooks cook your meals in front of you, which means you can literally see the smoke rise, the oil bubble and the meat get fried!

I got to eat my favourite Pepper pork chop while my Mom and sister ate fish and chicken respectively. After our meal, we went to my sister's favourite store in the whole mall, Pet Lovers! Its basically a store that sells pet supplies and clothing. We spent some time looking at the rabbits, hamsters and guinea pigs sold there. My little brother spent the whole time trying to grab a hamster and touch a rabbit through the glass walls! That made us and many of the passersby laugh out loud, after that, we all then looked for clothing for our Maltese,a breed of dog, but none of the clothing seemed to be suitable in size for our plump pooch!

Sadly, after this,we had to head home because my brother had "pooped" on his pants and was practically begging us to bring him home to change. His repeated whinings eventually got to my Mom who, not being able to stand his screams, decided to bring us all home. Hopefully we will all get to come out for a meal again sometime soon.

A problem I encountered and how I solved it (Eng. Assignment)

Just this morning, I woke up early, changed my clothes and turned on the computer. Just as I was about the turn on the internet browser, my Mom asked me to hang up the clothes on the poles in the dining room. Reuctantly, I Took the clothes out of the washing machine and hung them on the poles.

After finishing my assigned task, I went back to the computer, only to find it off! I repeatedly pushed the "turn-on" button but to no avail. Assuming that the computer had no more power, I switched on the charger and plugged it in, and to my horror, the computer began to smoke! Smoke came out of the side of the computer non-stop until I pulled out the charger.
(Smoke not really visible in picture)
Now that I had "fried" the internal circuits of my computer, I could no longer do a video chat with my Dad who is overseas at the moment! Many of my online assignments and games I'd downloaded could no longer be played! I had to think of something to do to fix this or both my Mom and Dad would be mad at me for "destroying" the only source of communication between them...

That was when I remembered the other extremely old laptop that was stashed somewhere in the study room. Afer digging through the boxes and shelves, I managed to find it! I had to reinstall our internet program onto it, then go online once more to install "Skype", a free program which enabled you to make video calls to other people using the smae program!

Thanks to this, my problems are solved! But how to explain the "Fried" computer...I guess I'll have to come clean...

A moment spent alone doing something I enjoyed (Eng. Assignment)

It's rare that I get to be alone to do something I enjoy due to amount of homework given by teachers and my Mom, but just yesterday, I got some time to myself, and so, I took the chance to read a comic book lent to me by my friend Reefver. I've recently started reading comics again and they surprisingly have some sort of appeal to me now...anyways, the comic I've started reading is titled "Death Note", a Japanese written comic.

"Death Note" is basically about a youth named Light who finds a book belonging to a Shinigami, a Death God, he then uses the book to cleanse the earth of all evil by writing the names of criminals into the book. By doing this, the criminals will die of heart-attacks within 40 seconds. What makes it interesting is the suspense when the police attempt to track down Light and what the characters, Detective L and Light, do to outwit each other.

After reading the comic, I decided to find out more about "Death Note", I went online to search and found out alot of information like the authors of the book and ow it was turned into a video game and animaed series. Here's the website, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_note.

I then went to Youtube.com to watch the animated series, and I've got to say, now I understand why my classmates love watching Japanese anime. The way the backgrounds and characters are designed are spectacular, the special effects are amazing and you will not believe that this was all done by drawing and then scanned into the computer!

I've uploaded a picture of one of the illustrators of Death Note on to this blog. Hopefully, tomorrow, I'll be able to get some more "Death Note" comics from Reefver.

The Legend of Lionel Messi

Something that took place in school (Eng. Assignment)

Today, my good friend Marcus and I stayed back together with Benjamin to complete several of the decorations for our class. When we first entered the class room after Chinese class, it was already dismissal time, so most of our classmates had already left, except for those who had to stay back for detention with our English teacher Ms Tan Y L.
The first thing we had to settle was the Chinese New Year docerations. Our form teacher, Miss Reyna Choo, came in to assist us and teach us how to fold small "fire cracker/streamer" looking things from red packets, fish and these beautiful ornaments that could be hung from the ceiling, the half-finished result looked something like this...
(Somehow, the picture can't rotate)
The ornaments and Chinese New Year decorations were made from Red Packets that were supplied by several members of our class. We folded the red packets so they looked like "Boats", then stapled them together, the fishes however, required scissors to cut. Marcus and I spent about forty minutes stapling and folding, but our jobs were made easier when Daniel yeo came to assist us with the stapling and folding, even though some of the results were not up to our standard. In the end, we managed to complete 3 ornaments, 5 "fire cracker/streamer' things and 1 fish...not a very desirable result, but one we had to deal with due to the constant waves of lethargy that constantly swept towards Marcus. We then moved on the do up the class notice board. It had already been covered in white Mahjong Paper from the previous year, so all we had to do was do the drawings on it. I had to use a marker to draw out the words "Notice Board"
and draw several designs on it to make it more colourful. Our Class Logo and Motto "Never Ending Flame" were drawn on the board by the best artist in class, Cheng Geng, but of course, being class monitor, I had to be the one who had to supervise the entire designing procedure.
(Somehow, the picture still cannot rotate!)
Other than just drawing, we had to colour all of our drawings with crayons that I brought. It was an extremely tedious process which was made alot easier when Benjamin came to assist Marcus in the colouring process while I planned how to design the rest of the classroom.
After another hour of colouring, planning and touching up, we managed to finsh the class notice board and planning for the entire classroom, at this rate, the class decorations could be completed by the end of this week and I'll be able to breath again!
